From Toilet: Ek Prem Katha to the upcoming Padman, Akshay Kumar looks poised to break the Bollywood trend of romance and action movies that still depend on lead actors with superhuman strengths and lovers crooning on rolling pastures to drive their ticket sales up.
Toilet deals with the story of improving the proper sanitation and environmental condition of India with an emphasis on removing of open defecation mainly in rural areas. His upcoming movie Pad Man deals with the inability of the rural Indian population to afford sanitary pads.

It is based on the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist and the inventor of the low-cost sanitary pad making. He saw his wife using old rags for sanitary pads and seeing the condition of his wife, he then used several models and came up with new models for sanitary pads every month.
The movie Pad Man is an Indian biographical comedy-drama movie written and directed by R.Balki starring famous celebrities like Radhika Apte, Sonam Kapoor and Akshay Kumar in lead roles and a cameo appearance by Amitabh Bachchan.
Pad Man – Trailer
Budget and Expected Box Office
The movie Pad Man’s first trailer was released on 15th, December 2017. Soon the trailer began trending on Twitter. The scene where Kumar tried wearing a sanitary napkin and other handing them to his sister became a hot topic of discussion on social media.
The movie was made with the budget of 70 crores where print & advertising cost was marked to 20 crores. The movie has expected to earn around 85-95 crore if it will be able to win the heart of an audience.
Why Akshay Kumar’s movie Pad Man won’t lead the Box Office?
According to the industry sources, Pad Man was first slated for the release of January 25. The main reason for the loss of the movie is the release date of Padmavati as well. The movie Padmavati is also slated to be released on January 25 and the film that went through a title change post the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) recommendation, can heave a sigh of relief as the movie can hit the theatres as early as January 25. The analyst of Film Trade, Ramesh Bala also tweeted that the movie can hit the theatres.
Pad Man vs Padmavati
While Padmavati has been made on a massive budget of Rs 190 crore, the makers of Padman have spent Rs 90 crore on the film that will be released on 3,000 plus screens. As Pad Man has not spent the massive budget in the movie, it has also not expected high at the box office. Furthermore, Padmavati’s plot is based on love, romance and war and the Indian public are still attracted towards such plot but Pad Man has focused on social ethics and problems which is less desired by the public.
Moreover, Akshay’s movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was also not able to seize the Box Office like that of Tiger Zinda Hai, of Salman Khan. Toilet was just able to earn a total of around Rs 209 crore approx worldwide in six weeks, as recorded by Boxofficeindia.com. The other two movies released together named ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ which collected over an unimaginable Rs 800 crore and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ making Rs 272.52 crore. This clears that Indian public is still focusing more on love, war, and action movies respectively.
