Born on 12 June 1979, in Mumbai, India, Ritesh Batra is an Indian Movie maker, widely known for his debut feature movie “The Lunchbox” casting Irfan Khan, Nawawazuddin Siddiqui, and Nimrat Kaur. This movie is highest grossing foreigner movie in America, Europe, and Australia for the year of 2014 grossing over $25 million (180 INR).
He is also a screenwriter, producer, actor and director who is famous for his work nationally and internationally.

Ritesh was born in a middle-class family from Joginder Batra (father) and Manju KapoorBatra (mother) and has elder sister Radhika Batra Shah growing up. He completed his school education from AVM High School in Mumbai and went to the United State of America to complete his higher education. After graduating from Drake University in Economic, he worked as a consultant at Deloitte.

His Arab language short “Cafe Regular, Cario” was shown in many international film festival which earns him many International Film Critics Association Award and received special mention from the jury at the Chicago and Tribeca Film Festival.
In 2009, Barta was part of the Sundance lab with the project “Story of Ram” where he won Time Warner Storytelling Fellow at Sundance Film Festival and Annenberg fellow at Sundance Film Academy.
