The Khans might rule the roost at Box Office but no one can beat Sanjay Leela Bhansali when it comes to delivering old-world charm of a bygone era. Be it the sparkling bejeweled costumes of Devdas, which hark back to the Mughal era, or the profusion of colors in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bhansali has displayed his love for Indian culture, traditions and history like no others.
Padmavati continues this trend featuring the popular stars like Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, a legendary Hindu Rajput queen, Shahid Kapoor as Ratan Singh, the Rajput ruler of the Guhila dynasty who ruled all over the kingdom of Mewar and Ranveer Singh as the ruler of Delhi Sultanate.

As the interpretation of history changes with time, there’s a thing about history we never knew. Similarly, the story of Rani Padmavati in the movie is referred with Rani Padmini in numerous versions. Some people believed that Padmavati talking parrot led her to unite with her true lover, Ratan Sen. Some people even claim Rani Padmavati was defeated by Ratan Sen in sword fighting which made her marry him.
Padmavati Budget and Expected Box Office
The movie, Padmavati is set to be released on 25th, January 2018. Likewise, Akshay Kumar’s movie Pad Man is also set to be released on the same day which is very challenging one. Padmavati is one of the most expensive films ever made its production budget amounts to INR 190 crore i.e. $30 million.
Moreover, the costume of Rani is designed using traditional Gota embroidery work of Rajasthan. The movie digital streaming rights were also sold to Amazon Prime Video for 20-25 crore.
As per the online sources, the movie starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in lead roles, Padmavati is based on a 16th-century poem written by Malik Muhammad Jyasi. The movie has been a center of controversies for past one year since Sanjay Leela Bhansali began shooting in Jaipur. The director was attacked on the sets and the film was postponed to release.
CBFC decided to change the name of the movie from Padmavati to Padmavat. The decision was accepted by everyone and the official handles of the film on Twitter and Facebook were also changed to the same name.
Will Padmavati top Pad Man in box Office?
Both the movies, Padmavati and Pad Man is slated to be released on the same day that is the day of Republic. Due to this reason, the collection of both the films will be affected to some extent. As for the prediction on the opening day of both the movies, Akshaye explained,
“Together, I think, both the films can score somewhere between Rs 35 crore and Rs 40 crore. Padmavat should collect an amount to the tune of Rs 25 crore and PadMan should comfortably make Rs 12-13 crore.”
Moreover, it is apparent that Padmavati and Pad Man are poles apart in terms of their plots and themes. PadMan is a social drama whereas, Padmavati is a period drama which reveals history.

It is bad for Pad Man as Padmavati will take away its business too. However, it will be interesting to see who will rule the box office.
