Shamsher Raj Kapoor, better known as “Shammi Kapoor” is an Indian actor and director. Born to the famous Kapoor family Shammi was born to father Prithvi raj Kapoor and Ramsarni Kapoor. Shammi Kapoor grew up with 5 siblings; brothers Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Nandi Kapoor, Devi Kapoor and a sister Urmila Sial Kapoor.
Shammi Kapoor was born on 21st October 1931 in Bombay, India. However, he spent most of his childhood in their family home Peshawar and Calcutta. Shammi was also a bright student for the time as he finished his matric exam from New Era School based on Hughes Road. After his schooling, he further joined Ramnarain Ruia College but he left his college and entered into the Indian movie industry in the year 1948.

He was introduced to the film industry as a Junior artist in his father’s theatrical company “Prithvi Theatres” and was paid 50rs per month which was a big deal back then. He worked along with his father for four years and left the company in 1952 to venture out on his own. He debuted his career in the year 1953 with the movie “Jeevan Jyoti”.
Throughout his life, he has done a number of successful movies like “Rangin Raaten”, “Coffee House”, “Tumsa Nahin Dekha”, “Junglee”, “Teesri Manzil”, “Brahmachari”, “Andaz”, “Manoranjan”, “Bundal Baaz” and so on. However, his last movie was “Rockstar” where he appeared along with his great nephew Ranbir Kapoor. Shammi Kapoor through his movies has been able to present himself as one of the most entertaining actors in Indian film industry.

Shammi Kapoor is regarded as one of the best actors in Indian film industry. Throughout his life, he has not only been able to win hearts of his fans but also has managed to accumulate awards. He has been awarded film fare award thrice for being the best actor, best supporting actor, and lifetime Achievement award. Apart from Filmfare awards, he has also collected IIFA award for his contribution to Indian cinema. Some of his other awards include Zee Cine Award for lifetime achievement, Star Screen Achievement Award, Kalakar Award, Anandalok Award for lifetime achievement and so on.
Shammi Kapoor has been married twice in his life. He met his first wife Geeta Bali on the sets of the movie “Rangeen Raaten” during the mid-fifties and the couple got married the same year on 24th of August. However, their marriage only lasted for a decade as she fell victim to smallpox and demised on the year 1965. The couple had 2 children of their own Aditya Raj Kapoor and Kanchan Kapoor.
After the death of his first wife Geeta, Shammi got married again in the year 1969 with Neila Devi who belongs to the former royal family of Bhavanagar. Shammi and Neila were extremely close to each and were living close together until his death in 2011 suffering from Chronic renal failure.

Even though there is no information about his net worth we have been able to know his early life earnings which were rs 50 per month during his initial years at Prithvi Theater. However, this salary rose to Rs 300 per month by the year 1952 which was a lot back then. The actor is speculated to have a net worth which is more than a million US dollar.
