AR Rahman aka Allah Rakha Rahman is an Indian film songwriter, composer, record producer, musician, and a singer. He has been working in various film industries, theater as a music composer. Mr. Rahman is also known as one of the world’s all-time top selling artist and ‘World Most Influence People’. He is recently working on the Movie “Enthiran 2.0” the Sequel of the movie “Enthiran” better known as “Robot” which was out in theaters in 2010. Many stars like Rajnikanth, Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson have appeared in the movie and the movie is one of the most awaited movies for the year 2017.

Early Life

AR Rahman was born on 6th January 1967 to Indian Parents in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His father R.K Shekhar, was a Chennai Based Composer and conductor for Malayalam films. Rahman lost his father at a small age and his family had to rent out musical equipment as a source of income. He was raised by his mother Kareema (Kasturi) along with three other sibling sisters; A.R. Reihana, Ishrath Qadri and Fathima Shekhar.

At the age of 11, he began training in music under Master Dhanraj as a keyboardist. Later on, he obtained a scholarship from the Trinity College of Music where he graduated with a degree in Western Classical Music.

He is known for his skills of playing a wide range of instrument which includes keyboard, piano, synthesizer, harmonium and guitar.

AR Rahman is a married to Saira Banu and has three children named Khadijah, Rahima, and Aameen through his marriage.

In 1992, Rahman was approached by film director Mani Ratnam to compose the soundtracks for Ratnam’s Tamil film “Roja”. The movie collected quite a collection in the box office and helped him get a strong foot in the industry. In addition to this, he has composed music for different advertisement, Indian television programs, documentaries and many other projects.

The following year, he also received The Rajat Kamal(Silver Lotus) award for the best musical director at the National Film Awards for “Roja”.

In 2006, Rahman also launched his own music label, “KM Music” and release his audio to the movie “Sillunu Oru Kaadhal”. The year 2008 turned out to be huge for AR Rahman as the movie “SlumDog Millionaire”; for which he produced a soundtrack won him a Golden Globe awards and two Academic Awards. He was the first Indian singer/composer to make it this big in the Industry internationally.

He has worked in the film industry in super hit movies like “Laagan”, “A Hundred Foot Journey”, “Rangeela”, “Dil Se Taal”, “Rang De Basanti” and much more. These movies also got him awards for the best music director and composer at the National Film Awards as well.

A world-class musician of India, AR Rahman was named as the “Mozart of Madras” by his fan in India and abroad as well.
