Biswa Kalyan Rath is an Indian celebrated stand-up comedian and YouTuber. He is best known for the YouTube series, “Pretentious Movie Reviews;” where he reviews Bollywood movies alongside fellow stand-up comedian and a close friend, Kanan Gill.

Biswa is one of the main identities behind the Comedy Hunt on YouTube. His YouTube stand-up videos are clever, well thought, smart content, and hilarious. His style of associating with the audience instantly makes him one of the top Indian stand-up comics.

Early life

Biswa Kalyan Rath was born on 27 December 1990 on Orissa, India.  In his youth, Biswa studied in different schools across Odisha in light of the fact that his, who worked in State Bank of India (SBI), was frequently transferred. Biswa graduated from IIT Kharagpur with a B.Tech. degree in Biotechnology. Prior to this, he attended IIT coaching in Vishakhapatnam after completing secondary school.

Career

After graduation, Biswa moved to Bangalore and worked in software, graphic design, and advertising.  Initially, he started performing as a stand-up comedian in Bangalore. It was during this time that he came in contact with Kanan Gill at an open mic event in 2013. Biswa soon received recognition and people started appreciating his work. He later left his job at Oracle to end up distinctly as a full-time comedian in 2014.

Later, Biswa and Kanan came up with the possibility of the “Pretentious Movie Reviews,” a series of YouTube videos which soon turned into a web sensation. In this arrangement, they review critically panned Bollywood films like “Gunda”, “Prem Aggan”. They likewise reviewed the movie “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”. Their videos often get broadly shared on social media, including by different celebrities. In 2014, Biswa performed his first live show alongside Kanan Gill in Gurgaon.

Biswa Kalyan Rath began doing stand-up comedy in 2015 and went on his first solo national tour, “Biswa In your face” in September 2015. He performed in various cities, including Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. In 2015, he hosted the Comedy Hunt along with AIB and other acclaimed comedians. He has been performing in all significant urban communities crosswise over India for more than two years now. His idiosyncratic cleverness has gotten an extraordinary reaction from assortments of audiences. As an ex-engineer, ex-coder, and ex-IITian, he carries a one of a kind point of view into comic drama with science, mathematics, dialect and life.

Additionally, Biswa appeared as Ilash in Qaushiq Mukherjee-directed comedy film,  “Brahman Naman” in 2016. The film revolves around a group of sex-starved nerd college quizzing team try to win the all-India finals and lose their virginities. The film was premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. It was released on Netflix worldwide on 7 July 2016.
