The man who is criticized as well as liked by many, Arnab Goswami is one of the most prolific TV journalists in India. He has worked in Times Now and ET Now, two of the leading English news channels in India as a news anchor. He was also editor-in-chief in the aforementioned news channels. He also hosted a live debate show, The NewsHour which aired on Times Now. The show used to be the most watched news program in India. Recently on 1st November 2016, he resigned from the post of Editor-in-chief of Times Now.

Childhood And Education

He was born on 9th October 1973 in Guwahati, Assam, India to father cum retired colonel Manoranjan Goswami and mother Suprabha Gain-Goswami. Since he was a son of an army officer, he had to attend different schools in different cities. Later on, he went to Hindu College affiliated to Delhi University where he graduated with Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. For post-graduation studies, he went to St. Antony’s College, Oxford University where he finished his master’s degree in Social Anthropology in 1994.

Arnab’s Career

His career started in 1995 when he worked as a journalist with The Telegraph in Calcutta which lasted for almost a year. His career in television journalism started when he joined the TV network “NDTV 24*7” in the same year. At the beginning, he used to broadcast daily news. He was also involved with DD Metro where he used to work on a program “News Tonight”. By that time, he had already started to prove himself as a key member of the team. Subsequently, he started anchoring the program “Newshour” which aired every weekend on NDTV. The show turned out to be the longest news analysis show compared to other news channels. Later, he was promoted to a senior position as the senior editor. And working as the senior editor for NDTV, he became responsible for the management of the overall editorial content. Arnab also hosted another show, “Newnight” which was one of the top rated NDTV’s news analysis shows. The same show won him the “Best News Anchor of Asia 2004” award.

He then left NDTV and was associated with Times Now news channel where he worked as the editor-in-chief and news anchor as well. The show “The Newshour” which became the most watched news program in TV news industry invited many criticisms and questions. His way of interviewing guests and repeated interference has raised a lot of public attention. Nevertheless, criticisms apart, the show featured interviews with many iconic personalities like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Parvez Musharraf and Rahul Bajaj.

Quite surprisingly, on 1st November, 2016, Goswami announced his resignation from Times Now. The reason for the resignation is not so clear. Even though, he stated that “the game has just begun” in an one hour web video conference inviting the press where he mentioned that he was resigning. Rumor has it that he will soon be joining Fox News or he will be starting his own news channel partnering with Rajeev Chandrashekhar and Rupert Murdoch.
