Mandana Karimi Biography
Manizhe Karimi aka Mandana Karimi is an Iranian model and actress based in India. In the wake of dealing with several successful modeling ventures across the country, she landed a lead role in the Bollywood film, “Bhaag Johnny.” Karimi got media attention after she became the second runner up in the hit unscripted reality television show, “Bigg Boss” season 9.
Karimi was born on 19 March 1988 in Tehran, Iran, into an Islamic family. She belongs to mixed ethnicity; her mother, Saba Karima is an Iranian while her father, Reza Karimi, is an Indian. Bought up in Tehran, Karima was raised into a conservative Muslim family and while growing up, she was exceptionally shy and quiet. She studied art and invest most of her time inside the room playing around with papers, cameras, and colors.
Karimi attended Flight Academy, Tehran to pursue a career in air hostess, which she later quit. About her Indian connection, she commented, “I had come to India many times, visiting my family or for holidays. Also, when I started modeling, I got offers from India but was never interested.” Being a Middle Eastern girl, she has allegedly experienced a ton of conflicts and emotional changes while growing up.
Air Hostess to Modeling
Karimi kickstarts her career as an air hostess and later quit that job to seek after a profession in modeling. She quickly got modeling contracts and in 2010, after working on various international modeling projects, Karimi received a three-month contract in Mumbai, India. About her experience in India, she said, “I had a different experience, staying without my family. I absolutely loved it! Work was great, but at that time, I had other contracts around the world. Then, in 2013, I decided to move to Mumbai and try acting.”
Involvements in Indian Cinema
Karimi has done TV commercials with Arjun Kapoor Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Shahid Kapoor. Additionally, she has worked with many top designers such as JJ Valaya, Sandeep Khosla, and Satya Paul.
In February 2015, she made her debut in Bollywood with a cameo in the film “Roy,” where she played the girlfriend of Arjun Rampal. Soon thereafter, it was followed by “Bhaag Johnny,” which was released in September 2015. A few months later, she played the role of Charles Sobraj’s assistant in “Main Aur Charles.” Karimi’s next film was followed by “Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3,” a sex comedy, was released on 22 January 2016. The same year, she played Rajyashri in “Xuanzang.”
In 2015, Karimi participated in reality TV show, Bigg Boss 9, where a group of celebrities from different strolls of life live respectively in a substantial house. One of the participants gets wiped out each week, based on public votes. The show went on air in October 2015 on Colors. Karimi ended the competition making it to the third finalists of the season and became the second runner up.
Personal life & Net Worth
“The first film that I watched was Sholay when I was 8 or 9 years old. My father was one of the few people in Iran who possessed a tape of the film, though the government didn’t allow to keep video cassettes,” says Karimi in an interview.
In 2011, a marriage certificate claiming that Karimi is married to a model, Lalit Tehlan leaked on social media. The reports states that they had am Arya Wedding on 18 February 2011. However, Karimi denied any such marriage and said the two were just dating.
Karimi, who can speak English, Persian, and Hindi, got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Gaurav Gupta, a Mumbai-based Indian businessman. The couple had a court marriage in the presence of their families on 25 January 2017. The news was confirmed through her twitter, saying “Had a surreal court marriage today in the presence of family. Waiting to celebrate it with our friends for it to turn real-Mandana ‘gupta’.”
