Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, known as PV Sindhu is an Indian professional badminton player, who won an Olympic silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. This young athlete is known for her skills, attitude, hard work and sportsmanship. Along with Sakshi Malik and Dipa Karmakar, she made every Indian proud in the Olympics.

Born in 1995, PV Sindhu is one of the finest badminton players in the world. Although, she achieved so much success in such a less time, she is a person of great humility and modesty. She is the rising princess of badminton and the rightful successor of Indian badminton legend Saina Nehwal.

PV Sindhu : Early Life and Personal Details

PV Sindhu was born on 5th July, 1995, in Hederabad to P.V. Ramana and P. Vijaya. Her parents are professional volleyball players. She completed her schooling in Hyderabad and currently pursuing MBA in St. Ann’s College for Women in Mehdipatnam.


This young badminton player is 5’10.5″ tall with black hair and black eyes. In her free time, she likes to watch movies and her favorite artists are Mahesh Babu, Prabhas and Hrithik Roshan. If you want to be like Sindhu, you have to eat Biryani, Chinese and Italian cuisines like her.


PV Sindhu : Career

In spite of belonging to volleyball background, Sindhu chooses badminton. She got her first taste of badminton from Pullela Gopichand and drew inspiration from him. She started playing badminton when she was eight years old and later joined Gopichand’s Badminton Academy. Gopichand is key person behind the rise and shine of Sindhu.

Sindhu made her international debut in 2009 in Sub-junior Asian Badminton Championships held in Colombo. By winning Bronze medal in her first international competition, she introduced herself to the world.

Sindhu continued her journey with consistent performances in different national and international tournaments. Some notable achievements; Silver in the women’s singles at Iran Fajr International badminton challenge in 2010, Asia Youth U/19 Championship in 2012 and Bronze medal at World Championship in 2012 and 2014.

PV Sindhu beat Wang Yihan in the quarterfinals and Nozomi Okuhara in the semifinals to meet Caroline Marine in the finals. She won the first set, but Marine managed to comeback and won the match by winning other two sets.

The match was intense and she gave a tough time to the current world number one. Although, she lost the match, she won million of hearts. Mother India is proud to have her first daughter, who win an Olympic Silver medal and every Indian either.
