Vinod Khanna is a famous Indian actor and a producer who was a successful leading actor during seventies and eighties. He made his debut movie from Sunil Dutt’s movie “Man Ka Meet” as a villain in 1968.

Born on 6th October 1946; this superstar has enrolled in movies like “Amar Akhbar Anthony”,”Dilwale”,”Dabangg ” and much more along with stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and so on.

Vinod Khanna’s Early Life and Family

Vinod was born to Indian parents Kishnachand Khanna(father) and Kamala (mother) in Peshawar, now in Pakistan. His father was a businessman handling textiles. He studied at Queen Marys School and St. Xavier’s High School and finished his graduate degree from Sydenham College.

He married Geetanjali in 1971 and had two sons named Rahul Khanna and Akshaya Khanna. In 1980’s he moved to Osho’s commune in United State for about five years. Vinod’s absence in the family creates friction between the couple and divorced from first wife Geetanjali.

In 1990’s he married Kavita Daftar (a businesswoman) and the couples have a son, Sakshi and a daughter, Shraddha.

Vinod Khanna’s Career 

Standing 5’10” tall, Vinod had played around 141 movies between 1968 and 2015. After a debut in 1968, where he acts in negative roles in movies like “Purab Aur Paschim”,”Mera Gaon Mera Desh”,”Sachaa Jhutha”,”Aan Milo Sajna” and “Mastana” and received a positive response from the film industry and viewers. In 1971, Vinod got the first role as a lead actor in “Hum Tum Aur Woh”. He is one of the few actors who start acting by playing a negative role and moved to play the role of the lead role.

Though in 1982, Khanna became a follower of spiritual teacher Osho ( Guru Shree Rajneesh) and left film industry for five years; which made fans distracted by his behavior. Vinod returned to Bollywood with movie “Insaaf” in 1987 and played a different romantic role in “Jurm” and “Chandni” but however managed to get fans support mainly for his action movies.

Besides acting career, Khanna is busy in politics. In 1997, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was elected from Gurdaspur Constituency. Later, he became the union minister for culture and tourism in July 2002 and moved forward for to the more important ministry of external affairs (MEA) as Minister of State but he fails.

Vinod established himself as a versatile and prominent actor in the industry for his movies and has received his First Filmfare Award for the movie “Haath Ki Safai” in 1975 and many awards and nominations including Kalakar Awards, Stardust Award and much more. He was honored with the prestigious Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 and Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2007 for best actor.
